Opening up the Heart of the Home
More Space. Better Flow. Better Entertaining. More Value.
In the heart of South Minneapolis, a charming home—and homeowners who love it—needed one big change to better suit modern living: expand the kitchen into the dining room. Older homes often separate these spaces, creating a divide between cooking and gathering. But today, homeowners want them to work together for both everyday meals and social gatherings. This project did just that, transforming a cramped, outdated kitchen into a functional, welcoming space by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining rooms.

Opening Up for Everyday Living
The original U-shaped kitchen was tight—so tight that only one person could fit at a time. And if the dishwasher was open? Forget about it. Extending the kitchen into that space creates a more open, functional layout where the homeowners can cook, move freely, and gather together.

A bright kitchen sink sits under a window, filling the space with natural light. Classic subway tile features subtle splashes of gray, adding texture and depth to the design.

A peninsula island with granite countertops now serves as an eat-in area, complete with seating and a designated drawer for everyday essentials. A separate desk area near the back entrance keeps clutter organized.

Smart Storage Solutions
With ample counter space, room for a double-door fridge, and a well-organized pantry, this kitchen is built for function. Deep cabinets above the fridge feature roll-out trays, making storage accessible—no step stool required!
