BASEMENT FAMILY ROOM

A Place to Escape

From an unfinished blank slate to a lower level family room for everyone to enjoy.

When the homeowners purchased their home, the basement was little more than an unfinished storage space, with their young son occasionally using the area to practice his hockey shots. From the beginning, they envisioned something much more—a vibrant, functional lower level family room for the entire family. When they reached out to us, we knew just how special this project would be, especially since their family had worked with us on various projects for decades. Together, we transformed this blank slate into an incredible lower-level living space, perfect for everything from quiet family nights to lively gatherings with friends.

The heart of the new basement is the family room, a space designed for both comfort and style. The standout feature is the custom-built electric fireplace, framed by beautiful herringbone tile that adds texture and interest. On either side, we incorporated built-in shelving and storage, ideal for keeping clutter at bay. Lovely greens and blues create a soothing palette, tying the room together. Durable luxury vinyl plank flooring flows throughout, ensuring the space will stand up to everyday life.

Fit for Entertaining

No basement is complete without a bar, and this one is designed for both fun and function. The curved soffit above the bar area visually sets it apart from the rest of the living space, making it feel like its own destination. The bar itself features granite countertops and structural posts that have been cleverly integrated into the design.

Painted shaker cabinets complement nicely with the granite countertop. Running up the wall, a blue subway tile creates a striking backdrop for the custom-made floating shelves. Additionally, the homeowners were able to repurpose their old refrigerator and dishwasher from the main floor and give them another life!

Bathroom Bliss

The new basement bathroom is nothing short of luxurious. A large walk-in shower with eye-catching, large-format tiles that stretch across the walls. A custom vanity spans the entire wall, paired with a mirror that has been expertly cut to accommodate both the light fixture and outlets.

Spa Retreat

Measuring about 2′ by 3′ feet, the shower tiles make a bold statement. We carefully matched the tile’s color with the shower faucet for a harmonious, high-end feel. It’s these small, thoughtful details that make this bathroom a true retreat.

The newly lower level family room features an open layout with distinctive spaces, brought together by a soothing palette of lovely greens and blues.
