Minneapolis condo RENOVATION

Downtown Condo Overhaul

Minneapolis condo renovation gave the homeowner a complete refresh.

After inheriting a condo in a prime location, the new homeowner knew every inch needed attention. It was old, outdated, and rooted in another era. Layered wallpaper, outdated carpet, and mirrored walls included!

Today, the space feels entirely reimagined. A beautiful new kitchen now opens to the main living area, anchored by a custom built-in and framed by grand views. New flooring runs throughout, the entry closet was thoughtfully reworked, and both bathrooms were fully renovated. This project went from a tired condo into a bright, functional home designed for today’s living.

Gypcrete subfloor is in bad condition which is required for fire code and sound transmission.

Conquering the Challenges

When the existing carpet and tile flooring were removed, the gypcrete was significantly damaged. Repairing and leveling it required thoughtful problem-solving and careful sequencing — the kind of behind-the-scenes work that isn’t glamorous, but critical to the final result.

A Kitchen That Finally Connects

With the wall removed, the kitchen now flows directly into the main living space.

Key highlights:

  • A large peninsula that anchors the room and adds generous prep and seating space
  • Paneled dishwasher and integrated Sub-Zero refrigerator for a seamless look
  • A backsplash with carefully considered start-and-stop points so the material feels intentional.

The scale of the appliances was no small detail either. That oversized Sub-Zero refrigerator? It didn’t make the journey upstairs easily, but it was worth it!

Breaking Up with the 1970s

Before: Heavy cabinetry, dated wallpaper, and a closed-off layout that blocked both light and flow.
After: A bright, refined kitchen with custom cabinetry, crisp tilework, and a more open connection to the living space.

The cabinetry is finished in Accessible Beige by Sherwin WIlliams, a balanced neutral that adds warmth and depth while keeping the overall palette light and refined.

Function-First Storage

Lower cabinets are designed to prioritize deep drawer storage, making everyday items easier to access and eliminating the need to dig through dark base cabinets.

Before: The built-in was a charming feature, but the surrounding space felt disconnected and dated.

After: Refined millwork, open shelving, and a tailored backdrop transform the built-in into a cohesive focal point.

Smart Storage at the Entry

The entry closet was redesigned to look like three identical sections, but functionally they’re tailored:

  • One section dedicated to coats and hanging items
  • Two sections with adjustable shelving for flexible storage

It’s a subtle upgrade that dramatically improves daily living, especially for a single homeowner who values organization.

A Transformation That Honors the Next Chapter

The original owner had lived in the condo for many years. This renovation marked a true turning point. A transformation from dated and worn to fresh, reimagined, and fully updated.
